| Considered by many the Jim Thorpe of the Nisei ballplayers, Wally Yonamine was drafted straight out of high school to play for the San Francisco 49ers in 1947 and the following year was signed to paly for the San Francisco Seals. Manager Lefty O'Doul convinced Wally to play for the Tokyo Giants and he led them to three straight championships - retired after ten years with a .311 batting average and went on to coach and manage for twenty-six more years. Wally was the second Nisei to be inducted into the Japan Hall of Fame. |
